The Journey Begins: Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye
About three weeks ago now (yeah, we’ve been busy, okay!?) Alex, TC, Special Guest Lizzy and I hit the road to see some of Scotland and find a Highland cow or coo as a Scot might say. The drive from Edinburgh to Skye is pretty spectacular, and as someone who has spent a good amount of time in cars and buses starring out the window, I would say this ride is one of the top three most beautiful drives I’ve been on, if not number one. We drove through valleys and past waterfalls, even the one giant cloud that covered all of Scotland that day didn’t detract from the views.
On the way we saw a bus full of Aussies and Kiwis on a ‘Wild and Sexy Haggis Adventure’.
And anyone who knows what Haggis is knows that this sounds ridiculous, and maybe even gross.
Right before the bridge to Skye there is this amazing castle on an island guarded by a woman who may misinterpret something said with a Norwegian accent to be insulting. If you are able to get past her, the castle is a sight to be seen.

We arrived in Skye in the evening, and after following the directions to go down an unmarked road and turn left at the sheep we realized we were lost. Alex made a phone call to the hostel, and they asked if he was standing in a red phone booth in the middle of no where, so I guess visitors might get lost in Skye fairly often. Eventually we found our way to Glenbrittle Youth Hostel, which has nice kitchen facilities and is decent enough otherwise. Oh, and they have pictionary! Lizzy and I won.
The next morning we went to the Talisker Distillery…
